Soul Sisters – Mahalia Barnes, Jade MacRae & Karen Lee Andrews – Saturday 9 July
Saturday 9 July, 7.00pm (doors at 6.15pm)
BOOK TICKETS
Three of Australia’s preeminent Soul and Blues voices. A rare opportunity as the three come together in an intimate show that will feature selections from all three artists. With support from Liv Li.
Mahalia Barnes has been in and around music her entire life. Throughout her childhood years she was exposed to everything from Ray Charles, Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett to Ike + Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin, Donny Hathaway and Stevie Wonder, all of which helped shape her into the powerhouse soul and blues vocalist that has jaws dropping every time she picks up a mic.
Jade MacRae has reigned as one of Australia’s Queens of R&B since the early 2000s. The Sydney singer, songwriter and musician released two urban-pop albums, impressively collaborating with the US super-producer Warryn “Baby Dubb” Campbell prior to Kanye West. Then, in 2012, she pioneered a modish homegrown electro-soul with her vehicle Dune. In recent times, Jade has focused on her unique soul expression through her latest album.
Karen Lee Andrews is in possession of a unique sense of artistic purpose. Surrounded by music her entire life, Karen’s career to date has largely revolved around classic soul and rhythm and blues sounds. But in recent years, as her musicality has evolved, she’s been leaning more towards blues. Her songcraft is built on a thorough knowledge of blues, gospel and soul music and motored by an undeniable hunger to connect. Yet the defining ingredient is Karen’s unshakeable artistic passion.
Mahalia, Jade and Karen will share a full range of the music spectrum – the show is dynamic, organic, raw & exciting. Great musicians, great singing & so much feeling.
